DESCRIPTION:Since PD (Physical Distancing)\, I find it nourishing to pause\, ground and connect with others online. The sense of dropping in with ourselves\, others and feeling our shared humanity can feel soothing and restorative. I am in a Mindfulness Meditation teacher training program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. I will be sharing primarily from that stream. We will have some time after the meditation to hear from each other. In the second hour of the event\, I will offer a 30-minute session on connecting with our feelings and needs based on Marshall Rosenberg’s NVC process. It is a chance to connect with our hearts to find what would really nourish us right now. \nWe will use these documents for the NVC exercise.https://www.cnvc.org/training/resource/feelings-inventoryhttps://www.cnvc.org/training/resource/needs-inventory \nI will be closing the Zoom room 5 minutes after the event starts to avoid disruptions to the group. SUMMARY:The Intrinsic Freedom of the Mind Itself with James Low
DESCRIPTION:Our mind is intrinsically clear\, but becomes cluttered by thoughts. Join James Low as gives an introduction to Dzogchen\, and discusses the difference between the mind and contents of the mind\, so we can practice directly experiencing the clarity of mind. Through this dharma talk\, we will gain an increased sense of how the mind is self-purifying through the self-liberation of whatever arises. \n10:30am-12:30am Saturday September 5th (California time)\nOnline through Zoom: Register to get the login info\nCost: suggested donation $10-$40 to support our teachers and cover the costs of the event.\nTo register: https://bookwhen.com/diamondlightsac#focus=ev-svss-20200905103000 \nJames Low is a disciple and teacher in the Byangter and Khordong lineages of the late Chhimed Rigdzin Lama.\nHe began studying and practising Tibetan Buddhism in India in the 1960’s and received teachings from Kalu Rinpoche\, Chatral Rinpoche\, Kanjur Rinpoche and Dudjom Rinpoche. Having met his root teacher\, Chhimed Rigdzin Lama (also known as C R Lama)\, he lived in his home in West Bengal\, India for many years\, serving him as required and being taught many aspects of the tradition. During this period in India James did several retreats and pilgrimages in the Himalayas. In the 1970’s and 1980’s\, on his return to Europe\, he also had teachings and guidance from Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.\nJames translated many tantric texts and sadhanas with CR Lama who wanted texts from his lineages\, Byangter and Khordong\, to be available in English. These are used as practice texts by CR Lama’s disciples and have been translated into various European languages.\nCR Lama asked James to teach in 1976 and later gave him the transmissions necessary to do this\, together with full lineage authority. In particular\, James was encouraged to give the traditional instructions using methods that enable people in the west to get the point. James has been teaching in this way for over twenty years.\nJames regularly teaches the principles of dzogchen in Europe and he publishes translations and commentaries from time to time.\nMany of his seminars have been recorded\, transcribed and made available on this website in the hope that they may be useful for those seeking to deepen their dharma understanding and to explore how to apply it in the complexities of everyday life.\nJames studied at Edinburgh and other universities and has retired from his work in London as a Consultant Psychotherapist in the National Health Service. He is slowly winding down his private psychotherapy practice. He has taught on many psychotherapy trainings in Britain.

SUMMARY:Online: Grounding and Connection with Sunil Joseph
DESCRIPTION:Since PD (Physical Distancing)\, I find it nourishing to pause\, ground and connect with others online. The sense of dropping in with ourselves\, others and feeling our shared humanity can feel soothing and restorative. I would like to think we are engaging our Social Nervous System through these practices.http://www.boazfeldman.com/EN/Links_files/PORGES%20Polyvagal_Theory.pdf \nIn the first hour of this event\, I will be offering a 30 – 45 minute guided meditation for grounding and arriving in the present. Feel free to drop after the meditation. If something I offer does not work for you\, you are encouraged to adapt/modify it to fit what you need. Thank you for being a part of this experiment! \nIf you can make a donation ($5 – $20) with ease and joy\, please contribute to my favorite sangha – \nhttps://www.diamondlightsac.org/donate/ \nThey are a volunteer-run sangha with a big heart.

SUMMARY:Overcoming Difficult Emotions in the Midst of COVID-19...Or Any Other Time with Karuna Cayton
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to host the author of the book “The Misleading Mind”\, Karuna Cayton\, for an interactive class April 28-May 19. We will delve into modern day psychological questions that have arisen as a result of the Coronavirus but still affect us throughout our life. We will look at how emotional and psychological problems arise\, what are their causes and how can we work with them. But we will approach these questions from a Buddhist psychological approach. Since Buddhism offers a complete psychology there should be an explanation of how to deal with our emotional struggles such as anxiety\, depression\, regret and so on. While this class is not designed to actually solve these problems we can hopefully get a glimpse of how we can approach them from an Buddhist psychological perspective. Questions and discussion welcomed! \nCost: Suggested Donation $10-$20 per class\, no one turned away for lack of funds. Donate online through our website: https://www.diamondlightsac.org/donate/ or Venmo\, search “Diamond Light” \nTo join the virtual classroom\, click the link: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/2247358115\nMeeting ID: 224 735 8115 \nKaruna Cayton has been a practicing Buddhist for over 45 years. His mission is to interpret the ancient teachings of Buddhist thought into modern language and interventions…without changing the purity of these universal ideas.
