SUMMARY:How Things Exist: The Wisdom of Emptiness with Emily Hsu
DESCRIPTION:According to Buddhism\, we experience unnecessary pain and problems due to misunderstanding how things exist. We believe that things exist in a more substantial way than they actually do\, and this is the root of all our troubles\, difficult emotions\, and painful circumstances. But by realizing the nature of reality – emptiness – we will be able to gradually reduce and ultimately eliminate our difficult emotions\, enjoy a peaceful\, stable and joyful mind\, and eventually achieve enlightenment. \nThis four week class is a continuation of a class begun last spring\, but new students are welcome. We will begin with a review of the main points from last time\, and then continue exploring how things actually exist\, what our fundamental mistake is\, how emptiness and dependent arising are compatible\, and various ways to meditate on emptiness. We will also learn how to apply this understanding in our daily lives. \n4 Tuesdays October 8-October 29 \nat Diamond Light Meditation Center\n2791 24th Street\, Room 14 (upstairs)\nSacramento CA 95818\nparking lot in back\, ADA accessible \nwww.diamondlightsac.org \nSuggested donation: $10-$20 per class\, No one turned away for lack of funds. Pay online: http://www.diamondlightsac.org/donate/\, or check/cash at the door. \nEmily Hsu is an FPMT registered teacher who graduated in 2004 from FPMT’s seven-year Masters Program of Sutra and Tantra at Istituto Lama Tsong Khapa in Italy. In 2005 she completed a ten-month solitary retreat to integrate the material\, and since that time has mainly been teaching and doing some retreat every year. She taught at Ocean of Compassion (Gyalwa Gyatso) Buddhist Center and other Bay Area centers for ten years\, with the last four years as resident teacher until leaving in 2016 to do longer retreat. \nEmily teaches Basic Program\, Discovering Buddhism\, introductory courses\, meditation\, and leads retreats\, with particular emphasis on emptiness\, bodhicitta\, Lamrim\, and calm abiding (shi-ne or shamatha) meditation.

SUMMARY:Thursday Night Sandwich Party! Making Breakfast for the Homeless
DESCRIPTION:Looking for something meaningful to do to fill a Thursday evening once a month? Come join us as we make sandwiches to serve at our 2nd Monday Homeless Breakfast at Friendship Park. \nWhat to Bring: Fixins for 30 sandwiches. Most loaves have 22-24 slices of bread making 11 or 12 sandwiches… So 3 loaves of bread and the fixins to make the bread into sandwiches. Bring jars of peanut butter and jelly or packages of lunch meat and cheese (Please NO American cheese or condiments). CostCo or Smart & Final have the best prices on fixins! We will provide the tools to make the sandwiches. \nWe feed anywhere from 250-350 people at each breakfast. It would be AMAZING to have 400-500 sandwiches at the ready! It’s nice to have extra sandwiches so we can double-up the serving after we run out of oatmeal (which we always do). \n💙💚💛💜 \nThe Sunday Sandwich group has set a high bar to reach. With upwards of 20 folks attending\, they have made as many as 500 sandwiches in just over an hour. Can we beat their time? \nAlong with these sandwiches\, we serve hard-boiled eggs\, bananas\, tangerines\, and hot cereal. At the April sandwich event\, one of the attendees asked about helping out and requested that we include details here so… If you’d like to help out\, check out needs list here https://tinyurl.com/BreakfastProgramSac sign up for those items you’d like to contribute\, #ShopAndPrep then bring your donations with you to the sandwich party and drop them off! \nIf you’d like a receipt for your tax-deductible donation\, include a copy of your receipt along with your name and mailing address and we will send a year-end tax letter! \n#BreakfastProgramSac #FeedThePeople #Breakfast #Donate #HomelessBreakfast #CompassionForCommunity #Love #SocietalGoals #ActsOfKindness #SocialJustice #SocialGood #NonProfit #Poverty #CommunityService #Awareness #GivingBack #ShareEverything #Philanthropy #Good #Positive #Impact #love #EndPoverty #EndHunger #FeedPetsToo #EndHomelessness #LoveCenter #LovePeople #Give #Care #Reach #Equity #FullTummy #FoodForEveryone #DiamondLightTibetanBuddhistGroup #SBMG #LionsRoarDharmaCenter
