SUMMARY:Meditation: Why and How
DESCRIPTION:Meditation is very practical. It is the cultivation of deep sanity through the art of relaxation\, stillness\, and vigilance leading to deeper and deeper states of inner knowledge. It affords us the opportunity to take an intimate look at our mind – up close and personal. What is it? How does it function? Where do thoughts come from? Are thoughts “real”? How do they change? How do they create our world? \nBy learning to meditate\, we begin to cultivate the awareness necessary to make wise choices\, to create a happy future by thinking and acting wisely. Join Elaine Jackson for this workshop where we will discuss some effective methods for beginning a meditation practice and for overcoming difficulties in an already existing practice – how to persevere when the going gets rough. \nThis class is for anyone who has an interest in meditation\, whether they already have an established practice or are brand new. By maintaining an attitude of childlike wonder\, we can always learn something new. When we practice together we learn from each other. \nThursday 9/29 6:30-8:00pm \nAt Diamond Light Meditation Center\n2791 24th Street\, Room 14 (upstairs)\nSacramento\, CA 95818 \nhttps://www.diamondlightsac.org\nDonations welcome \nElaine Jackson is a founding member of Vajrapani Institute and has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1977\, studying with many of the greatest Buddhist teachers of our time. Every year for 12 years she engaged in a month-long solitary meditation retreat to deepen her practice. \nShe served as Executive Director of Vajrapani Institute for over five years just prior to entering a three-year meditation retreat completed in April\, 2014. She lives a contemplative life off-the-grid in the Santa Cruz mountains while offering Dharma teachings and meditation support.

SUMMARY:Lam Rim: A Daylong Mediatation
DESCRIPTION:Lam Rim\nA Day Long Guided Meditation \nBuddhist Masters throughout the ages have advised that our experience of the world and actually our world itself\, come from our mind. Yet\, rarely do we gift ourselves the quality time to explore what shapes our life. In this day long practice\, we will engage in guided meditations that probe into how our reality exists: what is our current condition and how can we use it to best advantage to create a happier future for ourselves and all beings. \nDuring this day long workshop\, we will spend the day:\n– Receiving practical meditation advice from Buddhist Masters of the past\n– Exploring how our mind shapes our reality\n– Participating in guided meditations to probe how our reality exists\n– Discussing how to create a happier future for ourselves and others\n– Examining practical techniques useful for daily life\n– Practicing meditation in a supportive community to prepare for the real world \nWhen: October 1\, 2016 • 10:00AM – 4:00PM\nLunch Break: 12:30 – 1:30PM\nWhere: Diamond Light Meditation Center\, 2741 24th Street\, Room 14 (upstairs) Sacramento\nCost: Free event\, Donations welcome \nElaine Jackson is a founding member of Vajrapani Institute and has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1977\, studying with many of the greatest Buddhist teachers of our time.
