SUMMARY:The Way of Compassion with Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim
DESCRIPTION:The Way of Compassion with Geshe Lobsang Tsultrim \n4 Wednesdays 7/18-8/8 6:30pm-8:30pm \n“If you want others to be happy\, practice compassion. If you want to be happy\, practice compassion.” – His Holiness Dalai Lama XIV \nThe Way of Compassion is the way of happiness. Research studies show that meditation strengthens brain connections and functioning that calm fear and anger and meditating on love and compassion is associated with feelings of happiness. In this series of classes (four Wednesday evenings)\, Geshe Tsultrim will guide us in making compassion part of our daily lives. \nat Diamond Light Meditation Center\n2791 24th Street\, Room 14 (upstairs)\nSacramento CA 95818\nparking lot in back\, ADA accessible \nsuggested donation: $10-$20 per class\, no one turned away for lack of funds \nGeshe Lobsang Tsultrim is part of the Gaden Shartse Monastery in south India. “Geshe” is a monastic degree similar to a PhD that is earned after decades of intensive study and passing the highest-level exams. SUMMARY:Our Shared Humanity - with Sunil Joseph
DESCRIPTION:In response to the busyness of our lives\, we operate in doing-mode which is often disconnected from beingness. When our tasks are done\, it can be difficult to let go of the doing\, relax and drop back into being human again. Our humanity can feel uncomfortable\, vulnerable\, and unpleasant with all its complexity and messiness. When we are disconnected from our own humanity\, it is difficult to connect with the humanity in others. We can end up objectifying ourselves and others. This\, in turn\, can lead to a sense of isolation and even fear. \nIn this class\, we will use experiential practices to slow down and contact our humanity. We will draw on multiple mindfulness and compassion based approaches\, including Marshall Rosenberg’s Compassionate Communication and Kristin Neff’s Self Compassion Break\, to deepen into our heart space. The shared field and presence of the group will support us in entering the world of feeling and sensing in a safe and supported way. Using contact with ourselves as a support\, we will explore the realm of empathy and shared/common humanity. The field of shared humanity has the power to inspire a natural trust and relax our nervous systems. \nThe class will primarily be experiential with just enough theory to support our exploration. All are welcome. No prior experience is necessary. All the teachings are offered for free as our mission is to serve everyone regardless of means. For those who can afford it\, we would appreciate a $10-$20 donation per class. \nSunil Josef: I started studying Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in 2004. NVC has had a transformational effect on my professional and personal life. I am continually amazed at the power and simplicity of this way of living life. While I am not a certified NVC trainer\, I am happy when the fruits of my personal practice can benefit others. I consider myself a lifelong NVC learner and explorer.
